On 29 January, 2013, second partner meeting of a large scale project „Development of the unique Narva-Ivangorod fortresses ensemble as a single cultural and tourist object” took place in Saint-Petersburg

Project is implemented by Narva City Government, Department for City Development and Economy together with and „Museum Agency” of Leningradskaya Oblast. Welcoming speech was pronounced by Aleksandr Jefimov, chairman of Narva City Council, and by Tarmo Tammiste, mayor of Narva City. Participants of the meeting discussed the last period project activities and specified work plan for the next 6 months. Members of the Steering Group including Kalev Uustalu, general director of Estonian National Heritage Board, actively participated in the work of the meeting.

Project activities are concentrated on restoration of Victoria bastion in Narva and the Small Powder Granary in Ivangorod. At present project staff from both, Estonian and Russian, sides are actively working on procurement procedures and in the nearest future companies, who will implement construction and restoration works, will be announced. Construction and restoration works should begin in spring 2013 and be completed by autumn 2014 alongside with promotional events for opening of new tourist attractions. Furthermore, in the framework of the project guides and museum staff in Narva and Ivangorod will be trained, a new tourist product brand and web pages will be created, informational materials will be produced to promote new tourist products on the market.

The overall objective of the project is the development of Narva-Ivangorod cross-border region tourism infrastructure through reconstruction of fortresses ensemble and improvement accessibility of tourism information. Project has been approved by the Estonia-Latvia-Russia cross border cooperation Programme within European Neighbourhood and Partnership instrument 2007-2013. Total budget of the project is about 6,9 million EUR. Programme co-financing is about 6,2 million EUR including co-financing from the State Budget of Estonia about 1,8 million EUR. Narva contribution into the project is 347 146 EUR, contribution from Russian partner is 340 000 EUR.
