The opening of renovated infrastructure in the framework of “Unique Estonian- Russian fortresses ensemble development as a single tourist product. II stage. EstRusFortTour-2” project

On May 30-31, 2014 on the Estonian-Russian border in city twins Narva and Ivangorod the ceremonial openings of renovated infrastructures: Castle Park in Narva and access road to Ivangorod fortress – will take place. The works have been carried out during implementation of the cross-border «EstRusFortTour-2» project. The project was directed to increase of accessibility of the unique complex of two fortresses that is of great historical, cultural and tourist value.

High-ranked representatives of the both states, representatives of the financing Programme, regional authorities, local municipalities, tourist companies and mass media, Narva and Ivangorod population will participate in the opening ceremonies.

On May 30, 2014 the opening event will take place on the Estonian side. Participants will have an opportunity to test audio tours around two fortresses that, for the first time, have been developed during the project, take part in the interactive excursion around Narva, and learn more about the project implementation stages. The Castle Park opening ceremony will begin at 15.00 (local time).

On May 31, 2014 the event will move to Ivangorod. The ceremonial opening of the road leading to an ancient fortress will begin at 13.00 (local time) accompanied by festive show for guests and local population.
The project partners are: Narva Department for Development and Economy, Administration of the Municipal Foundation “City Ivangorod Kingisepp Municipal District Leningrad oblast” and Narva Museum.

The total project budget is EUR 1 824 564, 85, out of which 10% is partners’ co-financing. The Estonia-Latvia-Russia Program co-financing is EUR 1 642 108,36. Implementation of the project is planned in the period from December 2011 till 31.07.2014

The overreaching strategic objective of the Estonia-Latvia-Russia cross-border cooperation Programme within European Neighbourhood and Partnership instrument 2007-2013 is to promote joint development activities for the improvement of the region’s competitiveness by utilising its potential and beneficial location in the cross roads between the EU and Russian Federation. The specific objective is to make the wider border area an attractive place for both its inhabitants and businesses through activities aimed at improving the living standards and investment climate.
